From the recording Calm Before The Storm
Dear listener,
“Calm Before The Storm” was born out of feeling misunderstood. I’ve always been an anxious person, but to make matters worse, no one else seemed to understand my anxiety. I felt so isolated and strange. But when I sat down at my keyboard, I found relief. This knot of incommunicable emotion became conversational lyrics; I could make myself understood.
From there, it was a winding road to finish the song. I wasn’t happy with it at first, so I set it aside. It was my then-piano teacher who wrote the haunting piano arrangement you now hear.
Then, in the studio, it was transformed gradually into dramatic synth-pop. By the time we finished the song, I knew this would be the beginning of a new era for me. Everything from the unsettling ambient intro to the orchestral swells to the thunderous bass-synth excites me. This is the kind of music I want to be making.
Which is why it means all the more to me that you’ve decided to download it.
